One of the main causes for water to pool are leaking gutters and downspouts. Its likely, in a case like this, that they have not been installed correctly or they might just be clogged. To work as they should, downspouts needs to drain water away from the home’s foundation, 10 feet away is the ideal amount.
If your home has uneven grading or does not have a sufficient amount of grade (or slope) you might find this is the cause of pooling water. To fix a problem like this you would need to even out the grading.
What about those whose homes are located at the base of a hill and this is the cause of the pooling water? A homeowner can dig swales (small ditches) which are designed to be about 10 to 15 feet away from the home. These swales are designed to divert water away from the property so that water runoff does not reach the home.
There are many ways to treat water damage these days, but we would all agree that the better option is finding ways to prevent this from happening in the first place. Why not schedule an inspection of your basement and foundations to see why water is pooling around your home?
