
The home inspector will need to carry out the inspection thoroughly and efficiently. If you are the homeowner, ahead of time, make sure areas that will need to be accessed are clear and free of clutter. Areas that will need to be accessed include the attic space, the basement, heating systems and electric paneling. If you keep certain parts of the home locked up, unlock them on the day of inspection. This means the home inspector will not need to waste any time asking for keys etc.
If you are planning small repair work on the home, try to have it done before the inspection. Check that gutters and downspouts, doors, locks, windows and screens etc. are all in good shape. It would be a good idea to make sure shrubs and trees are trimmed if they are too close to a building.
Check to see If carbon monoxide detectors need new batteries or if you have bulbs that need replacing, although these are simple things, they could actually change the inspectors report if they are not working correctly.
What about pets? Were you aware that pets can be a big reason why a home inspector cannot do a proper job? On the day of the inspection, keep pets in a safe a secure area.
