![]() Many times on a home inspection I see missing junction box covers. It goes as a notation that is often forgotten about though. But why is it important to have a cover on every junction box? It comes down to one reason - safety. First of all, the covers protect the wires from accidental human contact, and also protects the people. This is important because junction boxes with missing covers are often found in basements and attics where we tend to store stuff and be less careful. Also, when wires are joined together it makes electrical flow more difficult and creates heat. The more wires, the more heat. If too much heat builds up at the wire splices a fire could break out. Junction box covers are actually one of the first lines of defense against the spread of electrical fires that originate there. So before you skip this necessary maintenance item, be sure to consider this information first. Questions? Contact us! |
