Paperless drywall has a water-resistant gypsum core but, instead of using paper as the outer layer, it uses a fiberglass covering instead. So, what are the advantages of this? The fiberglass adds extra strength to the drywall which makes it harder to damage. It is also designed to be much less prone to water damage. There are a few rooms of a house which would benefit from this like bathrooms and basements or any room with a higher moisture level.
Does this mean that paperless drywall is the best option? Paperless drywall has some drawbacks as well as benefits. It is not as easy to install as traditional drywall because of its increased rigidity. It can also be a skin irritant due to being made of fiberglass. Paperless drywall takes more effort to achieve a nice smooth finish and might not be as easily available as traditional drywall. So, when considering which type of drywall to uses, its good to think about the type of room it will be used for and then weigh up the pros and cons.
